Robert B. James, Sr. "Bob", 67, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Owensboro to the late William I. James, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Lardner James.
Bob was a 1967 graduate of Catholic High and attended Owensboro Business College. He was a ten year veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam War as an electrician on several ships including the aircraft carriers, USS Nimitz and USS Saratoga. He then went on to work as a letter carrier for many years before retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. Bob and Tina also spent five years caring for children at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Bob enjoyed playing cards, visiting casinos and cooking. He was also a good handyman and helped friends and family with many projects. Bob never met a stranger and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jean Evans; and a brother, William I. James, Jr.
Bob is survived by Tina James, who he married in 1968; daughters, Angie Fuqua (Charlie Fuqua) of Owensboro and Melanie James ( Jesse Svendsen) of Seattle, WA; sons, Robert B. James, Jr. (Kelly Willis) and Steven James (Kristi Mullen), both of Owensboro; eight grandchildren, Justin, Zack, Kaitlyn, August, Emily, Mecca, Selena and Eden; and a sister, Mary Jo Harrington of Owensboro.
The memorial service will be at 2 PM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Martin Evans will officiate. Visitation will be on Tuesday after 12 at the funeral home.
