Robert Martin Hoskins, Sr. died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Bob, as he was known to his many friends, celebrated his 72nd birthday last week with his family and friends at his side.
Hoskins was a 1954 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School. He received an associate degree at Brescia College and graduated from the College of Pharmacy at Duquesne University in 1959.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for 43 years. Hoskins was a veteran of the US Navy.
Hoskins met his wife Marylou, in pharmacy school at Duquesne in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They opened Lincoln Pharmacy, Inc. on Veach Road in 1977. Their daughter, Marylou, Jr. is now the chief pharmacist.
Hoskins served on the Owensboro Metropolitan Board of Adjustments from 1970-2000 and was chairman of the Board from 1974-2000. He also served on the Owensboro Planning and Zoning Board from 1970-2000. Hoskins was a Kentucky Colonel. He was most proud of the achievements of his four children.
He was born on October 16, 1936 to the late Bernard Raymond Hoskins, Sr. and the late Mary Martine Flanagan Hoskins.
He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Marylou Stine Hoskins and four children: Robert Martin Hoskins, Jr. of Owensboro; Maryann Graham Hoskins of New Orleans, Louisiana; Marylou Stine Hoskins Coomes (nee Marylou Stine Hoskins, Jr.) (Brian) of Philpot, Kentucky; and Carlton Lee Hoskins (Marot) of Washington, DC. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Ryan Coomes, Jennifer Higdon (nee Coomes), and Jo Beth Coomes. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Raymond Hoskins, Jr., William Francis Hoskins (Tommy), and his sister, Mary Rose Hodskins.
Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Thursday, October 23, 2008 and from 10am to 8pm on Friday, October 24, 2008. The family will pray the rosary at 7:30 pm each evening. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Philpot, Kentucky.
Hoskins had devotion to Our Lady and Her Immaculate Heart. The family wishes to continue this devotion by memorial contributions in his name to Eternal Life, 902 W. Stephen Foster Ave., Bardstown, Kentucky, 40004. www.lifeeternal.org.
