Robert Lee (Bob) Hill of Owensboro passed away on December 27, 2025, at the Heartford House at the age of 78. He was born in Norristown, PA to the late George Edward Hill and Ida Elizabeth O'Connell Hill, until 1953 when the family moved to Owensboro KY.
Bob lived a life of purpose and dedication to his faith, family and friends. He graduated from OHS in 1965 and earned his degree in chemistry from Brescia University. He started his career at GE as a chemical technician, later transitioning into human resources where he rose to the position of Vice-President of Human Resources. The family then relocated to St. Petersburg FL and Huntsville AL, all with General Electric. Bob returned to Owensboro to the same GE 9th Street location where he started out - this time with MPD, Inc. from 1990-2005.
After becoming a Christian at the age of 23 at Hall Street Baptist Church, Bob found joy in assisting with Royal Ambassador boys, teaching a group of single young adults, singing in the choir, and serving as a deacon. Leadership roles found him as he served in a church in each city where he and his family lived. Since retiring he has made First Baptist his home church and greatly enjoys and inspires all the men in the Fellowship Class.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Norman Donald Hill. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Peggy Brown Hill, and his “favorite” daughter Stephanie Hill Hays, who was his best shopping buddy in the world. Bob jokingly requested that his ashes be spread at Walmart “so his daughter will visit him at least once a week”. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling and antiquing; collecting many items but his favorites were walking sticks and nativity scenes. When at home he enjoyed working in the yard until an autoimmune disease led to paraplegia, complications of which led to his death. Throughout, he continued visiting and talking, joking and enjoying people he loved.
The memorial service will be at Glenn Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 12 pm with Rev. John Cashion officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 3 pm until 7 pm. and Saturday from 10 am until 11:30 am.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Wendell Foster Center and/or First Baptist Church, First on Missions.
