Robert Norman Harrington, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Owensboro to the late Edward and Mary Ann Young Harrington. Norman was a standout basketball player for Owensboro Catholic High and because of his height he was given the nicknames, "High Pockets" and "Slim".
He spent his life providing for his family in many ways. Norman retired from Green River Steel after 40 years of service and spent 12 years at Sts. Joseph and Paul Church as Head of Maintenance. He was a master craftsman with a love of woodworking, especially building furniture and barn replicas. In the summers, Norman spent his time raising tobacco and a large vegetable garden. He loved a good game of cards, a good Harley ride, a good family barbecue and a good rosary.
Mr. Harrington was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Ann Barnett Harrington in 1970; and siblings, Bernadette Harrington Bickwermert, Helen Louise Harrington and Edward Mac Harrington.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mildred Hardesty Williams Harrington; his children, James Harrington, Bob Harrington (Linh), Rick Williams (Jody), Rhonda Williams, Phil Harrington (Sandy), Ben Harrington, Sharon Williams, Mike Harrington (Alicia), Susan Stallings (Mark), Jennifer Nonweiler and a chosen child, Holly Logsdon (Chad); 33 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren (all of which were given a nickname by him); a sister, Agnes Jean Harrington; many nieces and nephews; and special, longtime friends, Marvin and Auda Wink.
The Funeral Mass will be 11 AM, Saturday, November 11 at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.
Fr. Brandon Williams will officiate. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 PM and Saturday after 9 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
