Robert E. "Bob" Elder, 82, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017 at his home. He was born in Stanley, Kentucky to the late Joseph and Nancy Willett Elder.
Bob was a member of IBEW Local 1701 and was employed by Dynalectric Company and its predecessor Griffin Electric Company for 46 years where he served as Superintendent on several large projects. He retired in 1997. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sorgho. Bob was a charter third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6101. He was also a fourth degree member of St. Vincent General Assembly 1576. He was instrumental in the construction of the KofC Hall at Sorgho and served as the second Grand Knight of Council 6101. He helped with many functions over the years and was well known for his cooking ability. He was instrumental in hosting several wild game dinners at the K of C Hall. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening and NASCAR. He was very adept at catching big catfish in the Green River. Bob's smirky grin will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Chelsey Mudd.
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty years, Margie Elder; daughters, Diane E. Mudd (Rick Tharp), Trisha (Steve) Frey, all of Owensboro, and Angie (Hank) Hedges, of O'Fallon, MO; grandchildren, Chad (Mandy) and Chase Mudd, Tyler (Sarah) and Hayley Frey, Lindsey and Alexa Hedges; great-grandchildren, Anna and Ava Mudd; sisters, Martha McAnnany, Shirley Rushing, Nancy Sorg, and Becky Mills; brothers, Bill, Earl, Jimmy, and Larry Elder; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be 2 PM Thursday, March 9 at St. Mary Magdalene Church. Fr. Mark Buckner will officiate with burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 AM until 1:15 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
