Robert R. Brown, 82, of Madisonville, formerly of Owensboro and Norris City, IL, passed away on February 5, 2018 at Bethany Center for Rehabilitation and Healing in Nashville, TN. He was born September 14, 1935 in Norris City, IL to the late Howard L. Brown and Katherine Weaver Brown. Robert worked in oil fields in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas, and farmed in Illinois, raising Angus cattle. He retired from Babcox and Wilcox in Mt. Vernon, IL, as a tool application engineer. Robert had 2 cable tool rigs and discovered the Corydon, IN North gas field.

He was a Navy Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Robert was Past Master of May Lodge #718 AF & AM, Norris City, IL, Past Worthy Patron of May Chapter #783 Order of the Eastern Star, Norris City, IL, Life Member of VFW Post #3851 Carmi IL, American Legion Post #109 Norris City, IL, and a Life Member of Amvets Post #75, Owensboro, KY.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Brown.

Robert is survived by 3 daughters, Martina Marshall of Campbellsville, Ky, Paula Dytzel (Eric) of Nashville, TN, and Monica Levi (Ron), of San Jose, CA; and a son, Joseph Brown (Anita) of Carterville, IL; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister Carol Boyd (Mike) of Texas; two brothers, Sam DeLap Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas and John DeLap of Norris City, Illinois; and a host of nieces and nephews.


My trust is in God. The Lord is my shepherd, and I shall not want.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 2 pm CST, a graveside Masonic service and Military Honors will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, in Hopkinsville, KY at 5817 Ft. Campbell Blvd. Hopkinsville, KY 42240, with Pastor Dan Saunders officiating. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
