Robert Vic "Bob" Bowers Jr.

Robert Vic “Bob” Bowers, Jr., 76, passed away June 27, 2024, at his home. He was born October 7, 1947, in Louisville, KY to the late Robert Sr. and Helen Bowers. A distinguished attorney with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville and Juris Doctorate degree from The U of L Louis D. Brandeis School of law, Bob dedicated over fifty years of his life to the practice of law, consistently demonstrating his skilled negotiation abilities and upholding a deep sense of justice for those in need. His commitment to his profession and his community was truly admirable.

After attending college, Bob worked at Bennett, Bowman, Triplett & Vittitow Law Offices before moving to Owensboro in 1979 and opening a satellite office for BBTV. In 2002, he began practicing on his own. Bob was a life member of the NRA and served as chairman of the FNRA committee for 10 years. As a CCDW instructor for many years, Bob demonstrated his firm support of the Second Amendment and loved discussing firearms with anyone who would engage. He was an instrumental piece in the promotion of youth shooting sports and served in the United States Army Reserve.

Bob had a heart of gold. His loyalty to his family and friends was evident from his actions and the love he so freely gave them. As an only child, Bob’s parents were his world. Moving them to Owensboro so they could be closer, he spent every moment he could with them. Crediting becoming the man he was, to his father, who he considered his mentor. At heart, Bob was a serious man, with the strength others could only covet. He had a way of putting you at ease, regardless of the circumstances. Those blessed enough to be in his close circle of friends knew he was fast with a bawdy joke, with the punch line hitting you where you least expected it. By his colleagues, he was appreciated for his “deliberate style.”

Bob was a brilliant attorney, a skilled negotiator, and a compassionate advocate for those who could not defend themselves. He loved his dogs, who were always a part of his life and would find their way into his office, and had a great love for the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob maintained a healthy lifestyle and enjoyed working out and playing softball with his lawyer friends. Our loss is heaven’s gain; Bob kept his dignity, wit and gracious demeanor until the end.

He leaves behind the chair of his memory, his wife, Terri Lancaster Bowers; stepson, Chris Smith (Darcy); countless friends, and numerous clients.

The funeral service for Bob will be 12 PM Wednesday, July 3, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, in Greenville, KY.
