Robert “Bob” Vessels 91, of Owensboro, KY, passed away on July 29, 2025. He was born on December 5, 1933, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Joseph Eugene Vessels and Edith (Wall) Vessels. A devout Catholic, Bob was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic and Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro.
Bob was co-owner of the family business, Vessels Alignment Service, alongside his brother Billy Vessels. The business was originally founded by their father and uncles in the 1940’s. Bob briefly stepped away from the company, moving to Louisville, Kentucky in 1957 to work for Standard Oil. In 1960, he relocated to Charleston, West Virginia, where he worked for General Motors as Area Zone Service Manager. He returned to the family business in 1967 and remained dedicated to its success. After retiring, Bob and his wife JoAnn moved to The Villages, Florida, where they embraced and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Bob found joy in playing golf, fishing, camping and working on projects. He was a great mentor, full of wisdom, always eager to guide the next generation. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bob cherished every moment spent with his beloved family.
He is survived by his six children, Tim (Valeria) Vessels, Sylvia (Scott) Luttrell, Debbie (Bob) Zuerner, Steve Vessels, Tricia (Mike) West, Tom (Cathy) Vessels. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his 18 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years JoAnn “Richards” Vessels; son, Michael Vessels; his parents, Joseph “Gene” and Edith Vessels; his brother, William “Billy” Vessels; and grandson, Scotty Luttrell.
Bob was a proud graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, Class of 1952. He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn with whom he built a beautiful life filled with faith, family, and cherished memories.
The Funeral Mass will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, with prayers beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the church.
His devotion to family, sense of humor and guidance will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
