Robert “Bob” Love, 77, of Thompsonville, IL, passed away Friday, December 13th, 2024, proving once again that even great sports fans eventually have to call it a day. He was born on August 18, 1947, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late William and Mary Love. Bob was a skilled Ironworker and spent over thirty years mastering the art; working for Pauley Jail Building Company and retiring from Ironworkers Union Local 22, where he was a lifetime member. He was a member of the Baptist faith, believing that righteousness paired well with a perfectly grilled steak.
Bob’s personality shone brightly throughout his life. He was known for his sweet demeanor, generous spirit, and thoughtfulness, which endeared him to friends and family alike…unless you borrowed his tools and forgot to return them, in which case, you might still be feeling the wrath of his gentle reprimand. Bob proudly wore the colors of the St. Louis Cardinals, relishing the moments spent watching games and sharing the excitement of victory with fellow fans. His interests extended to football, NASCAR, and an undeniable appreciation for classic cars. Often his hands were busy under the hood of treasured vehicles, firing up the grill’s flame, or grocery shopping, a seemingly simple task, which became a joyful excursion for Bob, reflecting his love for nurturing those around him. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia "Patty" Tate and Barbara Love Reno.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Pamela Black Love; children, Mark (Becky) Love, Renee Love Pine (Matt Reams), Ron Boston and Melisa (Les) Ricketts; grandchildren, Taylor Love, Baeyle Love, Macy Love, Olivia Pine, Amelia Pine, Eli Pine, Zach Boston, Daulton Boston, Chandler Boston, Ashleigh Ricketts, Hayleigh Ricketts, and Addaleigh Ricketts; great-grandchildren, Lansen Everman, Crewe Boston, Jaxon Boston, Scotlynn-Rose Boston, and Skye Tucker Boston; sister, Mary (Gary) Norton; brothers, William "W.E." Love and Bill (Connie) Love along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
