Robert "Bob" Nall Garmon, 89, of Owensboro, passed away on April 26, 2026, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. Born on July 5, 1936, in Cresaptown, Maryland, Bob's life was marked by dedication, achievement, and a deep commitment to both his family and his community.
Bob’s academic journey began with a notable accomplishment, earning a bachelor's degree in business from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). A gifted athlete, he attended college on a track scholarship and was a proud member of EKU’s first Ohio Valley Conference championship track team, where he contributed to their victory in the mile relay in 1957. Prior to graduation, he met and married the love of his life, Carmela Gandolfo.
Bob’s discipline and leadership skills were further exemplified by his service as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, where he served his country with honor. Following his military career, Bob applied his leadership and organizational talents as the director of traffic and distribution within the distillery business. His professional life was marked by integrity and a commitment to excellence, earning him respect among colleagues and peers alike.
Beyond his career, Bob was passionately involved in his community. A devoted member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, he also contributed to civic life as an active member of the Rotary Club. He generously shared his time and talents, including teaching swimming lessons at the YMCA specifically for children with special needs—a reflection of his compassionate character and dedication to enriching the lives of others.
Bob had a rich personal life defined by his love of nature and family. He and Carmela cherished their time at the beach, spending many joyous moments swimming in the ocean and creating lasting memories with family and friends. His winters were spent in New Smyrna, Florida, and his falls in Panama City Beach, Florida, seasons he looked forward to with great enthusiasm.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Garmon; his loving wife of 60 years, Carmela Garmon; brother, Bill Garmon; and niece, Virginia King.
