Robert Gene Belcher

Robert Gene Bobby Belcher, 70, of 2910 South Griffith Ave., Owensboro, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born June 20, 1935 to the late Homer C. and Jeffie Lee Belcher in Daviess County. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, was maintenance supervisor at Ben Hawes State Park, was a charter member of Windridge Country Club until the early 80s, a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Army Reserves and was an avid golfer. He loved being with his chocolate lab, Libby, and was a UK basketball fan. He started the volunteer program at Ben Hawes, worked on beautification of Ben Hawes, constantly, his career at Ben Hawes was a labor of love. He lettered four years in football at Owensboro High School where he held the record for point after touchdowns until the late 1970s. He enjoyed cooking for his friends and family and his friendships were lifelong friendships from his early childhood . He retired from Green River Steel, and had worked for the Wallace Wilkerson campaign,

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Houston Belcher in July 18, 2003.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacy Cox and her husband, Brian of Owensboro; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Beth Cox and Clay Robert Cox; his step-father, George Vollman of Lexington; a brother, Homer Belcher and his wife, Joy of Owensboro; sisters, Mary B. Martin of Athens, GA and Cynthia V. Terry of Lexington; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be 11:30 AM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
