Riley Dee Westerfield "Jr" passed away, May 3, 2014 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital while surrounded by family. He was born in Ohio County, June 14, 1948 to Riley Dee and Lois Christine Westerfield. Riley was a Vietnam Veteran and served his country in the Army from April of 1968 - 1974 as a Helicopter Gunner. He earned several awards while serving that included; Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/Device, and a Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. He was also a member of the Local VFW Post 696 and the American Legion. Riley had many enjoyments, such as traveling, deep sea fishing, hunting, and bowling. He also enjoyed UK and U of L sports. Most importantly, he loved God and his family. Whether it was coaching all three of his daughter's softball teams, or spending time with his wife of 47 years, God and family is where he found his true enjoyment.
Riley was preceded in death by his father, Riley Dee Westerfield Sr., father-in-law, Hershel Johnson, and step father, Albert Sauer.
Survivors include his wife Linda Westerfield; daughters Kathy (Rob) Young, Holly (Earl) Cavender, and Amy (Michael) Jacob; granddaughters, Morgan Oliver, Alexis Westerfield, Maya and Macey Jacob; grandsons, Steven Oliver, Hunter and Austin Cavender, and Logan Westerfield; three great-grandchildren; mother Lois Christine Sauer; sister, Marsha Boehm; mother-in-law, Barbara Johnson; sister-in-laws, Debbie Dinning and Betty Underhill, and nieces and nephews Eddie and Jeff Miller, Roxanna Kirk, Angela Harrington, Chad Underhill, and James Lambert.
Services will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, with Bro. Wally Renner and Rev. Tim McGuire officiating. Visitation will be 2:00-8:00PM, Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and again Wednesday from 11:00AM until the time of service at the church. Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Contributions may take to form of donations to Owensboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church, VFW Post 696, or the American Legion. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
