Richard "Rick" Allen Sears

Richard "Rick" Allen Sears, 70, of Owensboro, died on October 16, 2023, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Amarillo, TX, on July 1, 1953, to the late Alton D. "Ziggy" and Helen Dubois Sears. Rick's love for his family and his community helped define his life. After serving in the United States Navy and graduating from Western Kentucky University, he spent more than two decades in Owensboro as a home builder, making new homes accessible and affordable. During these years, Rick served on the Board of Directors of what is now the Kentucky Housing Corporation and was active with Kentucky Habitat for Humanity. 

After leaving the home-building business, Rick remained engaged in improving his community, and being available to help others. He was a gifted chef, cooking for the meal train at church, as well as for the enjoyment of friends and family.  Rick dedicated time to advancing social justice causes, most recently in welcoming refugees to Owensboro and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.  He was deeply involved in First Presbyterian Church, particularly the Multicultural Festival, an effort that seeks to foster understanding and respect for our similarities and differences in order to build a stronger community.
 
Rick enjoyed good food, good music, good fellowship and University of Kentucky basketball.  What Rick loved most was his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. 
 
He is celebrated and remembered by his children, Courtney Winders (Kris), Eric Sears (Jenifer Poell), Holly Sears (Stephen Arnold), and Brady Sears; siblings, Susan C. Sears (Bill Rambicure) and Sammy James; grandchildren, Tyler, Eli, Ada, Amelia, Elizabeth, and Nalin; and many nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, his brother, Dr. John C. Sears, and his niece, Summer Sears, preceded him in death.
 
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Rick Sears will be held at 12 pm. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 11 am to 12 pm.
