Richard L. Owen, 77, of 3636 Highway 54, Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at his home surrounded by all his family. He was born in Thermopolis, Wyoming to the late Leslie E. and Mary Jane Barnett Owen. He was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church and was the owner-operator of Bud Oil and Drilling Co. He also was a licensed dental technician and made partial framework for several dentists in Owensboro. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran during the Korean War era. He was a 56 year Mason and held dual memberships in the Ensor Masonic Lodge and the Yellow Banks Masonic Lodge. He also was a member of the Goel #104 Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a pilot and loved flying his Mooney airplane and was a highly skilled craftsman of many disciplines. He was a master tinker and prankster who had an adventurous spirit with a love for travel. He was a friend to everyone, but most of all, he was a very faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, J. Ann Owen, a son, Richard R. (Eva Payne) Owen of Louisville, two daughters, Jennifer Millay of Owensboro and Amy Nix of Wethersfield, Conn., four grandchildren, Corbin and Logan Millay, both of Owensboro and Addie and Ansley Nix, both of Wethersfield, a brother, Donald Owen and wife Margaret of Cary, N. C., a sister, Joyce Muffett and husband James of Owensboro and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 7, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
