Richard “Dick” Lorenze Best, 88, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY. He was born July 23, 1935, in Owensboro to the late Walter and Katie Lea Adelman Best. Dick graduated from Daviess County High School where he excelled in Basketball. He served in the United States Army, retired from Ideal Milk Company after 27 years, and also retired from Commonwealth Aluminum after 20 years of service there. Dick also loved hunting and fishing, playing golf, and enjoyed all sports especially UK basketball. Most of all, Dick really enjoyed spending time with all of his 40 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by seven siblings, Ed Best, Mickey Best, George “Bud” Best, Miriam Rouse, Dot Berry, Lena Lovan, and Helen Leib.
Dick is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Leet Best; children, Randall (Erin) Best, Phillip Andrew Best, Brad (Donna) Best, Wendell (Paula) Leet, Steve (Kathy) Leet, John (Judy) Leet, Leigh Anne (Mike) Nantz, and Amanda (Bryan) Blount; a sister, Jean Anne Griffin; a brother, Jerry Best; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Best will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday February 24, 2024 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Dave Baldridge officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
