Richard Henry Dick Carter, 70, of Owensboro died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at the Owensboro Mercy Health System. The McLean County native was a retired Milwright who had worked with Local 1080 in Owensboro for 37 years. He was a member of the Owensboro Christian Church; loved his family, his country, but most of all his God. He enjoyed Univeristy of Kentucky basketball; and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War (1951-1955).
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Stella Ray Vanover Carter; a son , Ricky H. Carter, Jr. of Livermore; two step-sons; Tim Jones of Freeport, FL, and Mike Abney of Calhoun; three step-daughters, Cindy Mathis of Owensboro, Marla Jones Stamm of Evansville, and Melva Morris of Calhoun ; eleven grandchildren; Malea Carter, Hank Carter, Mike Rickard, Samantha Matthis, Ian Stamm, Max Stamm, Billy Jones, Kim Clemmons, Christy Jones, Amy Matthis and Lora Wellman; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Josh , Brittany, and Jakob; five brothers, Billy Carter , Arnold Carter, Jr. and Roy Carter all of Owensboro, J.D. Carter of Kentucky Lake, and Ernest Carter of Providence; two sisters, Gladys Brooks of Owensboro and Ann Haines of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 1 P.M. Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Glenn Funeral Home with burial in New Cypress Cemetery in McLean County. Visitation will be at the funeral home from Noon to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, July 1 and after 9 A.M. on Wednesday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Owensboro Christian Church Building Fund.
