Richard Lewis Burke, 75, of Utica passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born July 27, 1933 in Jasper, IN, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Catherine Thais Burke; was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church; and was retired from Premium Allied Tool where he worked for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a devoted father and family man. He was everyone's "go-to guy", saw anything broken as an opportunity spending many hours engineering ways to fix things. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Ann Schnellberger in 1993 and brothers, Max Burke, Carl Burke, Stanley Burke, and Robert Burke.
Mr. Burke is survived by his special friend, Ella Himsel; children, Denise (Mark) Mills of Owensboro, Cheryl (Jeff) Kightlinger of Park City, UT, Ann (Chris) Scott of Plainville, IN, John (Lorri) Burke of New Bern, NC, and Chris (Donna) Burke, Jody Burke, and Steve (Amanda) Burke all of Owensboro; 25 grandchildren; step-children, Randy ( special friend Patti) Himsel of Evansville, Harvey (Lisa) Himsel of Jasper, and Sonya (Eric) Barnes of Avon, IN; a sister, Susanne (James) Seger of Dubois, IN; and a brother; Michael (Linda) Burke of Jasper; and many nieces and nephews.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at St Anthony Catholic Church followed by burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home where prayers will be said at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
