Richard Franklin Bailey

Richard Franklin Bailey, 81, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born March 28, 1943 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Elmer Franklin and Dorothy Irene McCrocklin Bailey. Richard was retired as a welder with Inland Steel and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, boating, metal fabricating, and smoking meats. Richard was also preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Ann Bailey on September 26, 2018, a son, Gary Lee Bailey on June 20, 2022, and a sister, Mary Dale Stites in 2018.

 Surviving are two sons, Robert Wayne Bailey and Russell Franklin “Rusty” Bailey, both of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Shawn Tuttle of Portage, Indiana, Christopher Bailey of Ina, Illinois, and Jeff Bailey of Orlando, Florida; four great grandchildren; a brother, David Wayne Bailey (Linda) of Beaver Dam; two brothers-in-law, Darrell Stites of Masonville and Bob Edge of (Barb) of Owensboro; nieces and nephews, Shana Hartley (Steve) of Hartford, Anita Meeks (Gary) of Masonville, Kevin Bailey (Angie) of Cromwell, and Bobby and Mikey Edge, both of Owensboro; and a special friend, Darlene Narkis of Owensboro.

 Funeral services will be 2 PM Saturday, August 31, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Entombment will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors. Visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

 The family would like to give a special thanks to the Heartford House and their staff for all the love and compassionate care they gave Richard during his stay there.
