Rev. James Robert Young, Sr. of Owensboro, KY went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
He was born October 17, 1936 in Crane Pond, KY to the late Herbert M. and Rachel J. (Brannon) Young. James is a graduate of Western High School in Owensboro. James loved spending time with his family, he was an avid bowler and very active in several civic and community organizations, to name a few, Mt. Pisgah Lodge #20, Past Worthy Patron of Order of Eastern Star. NAACP, Owensboro Black Expo and board member of the H. L. Neblett Community Center.
Rev. Young was the Pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Cleaton, KY for over 18 years. He served as Second Vice Moderator of the Kentucky Missionary Baptist Association as the representative of the Western Region. James served our country in the Air Force stationed at Andrew Air Force base from 1956-1960.
Rev. Young was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Viola (Liggins) Young, his parents; siblings: Mary Elizabeth (Young) Solomon; Bertha Louise; Harry T. Young; and William H. Young, Sr.
He leaves a legacy of loved ones to cherish his memories; Sons, James R. Jr. (Kay) of Columbia, TN; Michael E. (Jennifer) of Murray, KY; daughter, Chequero (Young) Cobb of Owensboro; six granddaughters; Kenyatta, Shenna, Jame, Shannon of Columbia, TN; Kaytlin and Kelsey of Pearland, TX; Three grandsons, Robert Young, Bradlen and Dominick Cobb of Owensboro; sister Clara J. (Young) Huff; of Ohio and a brother Charles H. Young, Sr. of KY.
Services are at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 17, 2016 at Fourth St. Baptist Church, 821 W. Fourth Street. Wake services are Friday, June 16, from 5 to 8 pm at the church.
