Rebecca "Beck" Schofield Glenn, 55, of Whitesville, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2026.
Beck was born on December 27, 1970, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to William and Kathleen Schofield. In 1978, the family moved to Whitesville, Kentucky, when her father took a position with General Electric in Owensboro. They settled onto a farm in Whitesville, where Beck and her sisters grew up pitching in on the daily work, an upbringing that instilled in her a lifelong work ethic. She was a graduate of Daviess County High School and went on to earn degrees in English and Journalism from Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Beck brought her many talents and interests to a varied and meaningful career. She spent a decade as special publications editor at the Messenger-Inquirer and wrote for the Chamber of Commerce magazine for more than 10 years. She served as director of financial development and public relations for the Big Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross and worked with the March of Dimes. In 1997, she became administrative assistant to the board of trustees of the International Bluegrass Museum, overseeing the museum until it closed for renovations in 2000. She went on to serve as marketing coordinator for the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau and later as market director for the Owensboro Regional Farmers Market.
She then tried retirement, but it didn't stick. She had a calling to help people and decided to go back to school, earning a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English, Secondary Social Studies, and Special Education. That degree led her to a role as a special education English teacher at Ohio County Middle School. She also didn't put away her journalism roots and continued contributing to the Messenger-Inquirer and Owensboro Times.
Community involvement was very important to Beck. She volunteered with Junior Achievement, was a member and past president of the Junior League of Owensboro, and was a founding member of the Owensboro Civitan Club. She served on the board for Owensboro Sister Cities and was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
Beck met the love of her life, Richard Glenn, through mutual friends, and the two were married in 1998. The family they raised was very important to her, and she devoted herself to her children, pushing them academically, believing in their abilities, and encouraging them to work hard. She made sure they had every opportunity to explore their interests and take part in activities that could broaden their education and enrich their lives. Whatever they wanted to pursue, she was quick to support them. She drove them wherever they needed to go, coached cheerleading, and faithfully showed up for every activity and interest. She loved to travel, and the family's yearly trips together were always something to look forward to. She was overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, Riley, who quickly became the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Schofield.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of nearly 28 years, Richard Glenn; children, Jordan Schofield Knott (Jarah) and Rachel Glenn Blythe (Brady); granddaughter, Riley Blythe; mother, Kathleen Simmons Schofield (Tom); sisters, Jennifer Lindsey (Lee) and Carrie Blackham (Rob); step-mother, Deb Schofield; sister-in-law, Sarah Combs (Fred); and extended family including nieces, nephews, and step-siblings.
The funeral service for Beck Glenn will be at 10:00 am Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday and after 9:00 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Schofield Family Cemetery.
