Rayola Laney, 86, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Mrs. Laney was born June 24, 1930 in Greenville to the late Lonnie and Gladys Shutt Winn. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Dunmore High School. Rayola worked initially at the GE plant and then began her career as a mother and domestic engineer. She was gifted in sewing, cooking, baking, and caring for her family. Rayola loved to read and shop but she was very frugal and knew how to use coupons to get the most from a dollar. She was a member of Dawson Baptist Church, had many friends, and was always caring for others.
Mrs. Laney was preceded in death by brother, Robert Winn and sisters, Sybil Higgins and Reby Moseley.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 60 years, Ellis "Ray" Laney of Owensboro; sons, Marty Laney also of Owensboro, Scott Laney of Lexington; two granddaughters, Hilary Wright and Jennifer Kothlow; great grandson, Bentley Sidener; sister, Joan Johnson; extended family and her many close friends.
The service will be 10:00 AM on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Craig Bratcher officiating. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday from 9:00 AM at the funeral home.
