Raymond "Corky" Withrow

Raymond “Corky” Withrow, 88, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with his family by his side. He was under the loving care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Hico, WV native was born November 28, 1937, to the late Otis Withrow and Floeva Allison Withrow. Corky was raised in Central City and as a young boy he loved to fish when he was not playing baseball or basketball. Basketball was king in Central City, and it birthed in him a longing to one day wear the Golden Tide uniform. That dream became a reality as an 8th grader playing on the JV team. No one would have imagined that one day Corky would become a basketball legend in the state of Kentucky. As a senior, he received all-state honors and was selected as a 1st team All-American in basketball. He also excelled on the baseball diamond and was drafted as a high school senior by the Milwaukee Braves. Corky played major league baseball for 10 years ending with the St. Louis Cardinals. He also was drafted into the NBA with the Philadelphia Warriors. One of Corky’s hobbies was getting together and playing cards with his friends. But what he cherished most was his family, being a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and his children and grandchildren play sports. Corky was raised in a home where Christ was loved and that love became his later in life.

In addition to his parents, Corky also was preceded in death by his brother, Roy “Dee Dee” Withrow and his sister, Peggy Sue Withrow.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Yewell Withrow; son, Keith Withrow (Kim); daughters, Kelly Burke (Carl) and Robin Ham (Kent); five grandchildren, Whitney Priar (Chad), Haley Cantrell (Lester), Lexie Suter (Raley), Jackson Burke, and Olivia Burke (finance’ William Duvall); six great grandchildren, Logan Cantrell, Colton Cantrell, Emma Cantrell, Cameron Cantrell, Kinsley Priar, and Hazel Suter; two nephews, Chad and Roger Withrow.

The funeral service for Corky Withrow will be 3:00 pm Saturday, April 25 at Heritage Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at Heritage Baptist Church.
