Raymond Kendall “Pete” Smeathers, 83, of Owensboro, passed away on December 4, 2025. He was born in Owensboro to the late Raymond Ben and Ernestine Kendall Smeathers on January 30, 1942. Raymond was a longtime member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, where his faith was lived out in steady devotion and a heart that welcomed everyone. A man who truly never met a stranger, he had a gift for turning simple conversations into friendships. He was a part of many mission trips through Yellow Creek and served as a Deacon.
A graduate of Daviess County High School, class of 1960, Raymond quickly went to work at W.R. Grace and retired after forty-two years. He enjoyed Ham Radio, golf, and watching U.K. basketball. He loved taking walks, greeting familiar faces for his morning coffee, and sharing time with those he loved.
Raymond was a devoted husband of sixty years, a loving father, and the best “Poppy” to his three granddaughters, who were the joy of his life. His gentle spirit, easy smile, and genuine kindness made him someone people were simply grateful to know.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Smeathers; children, Darren Kendall Smeathers, Jeff Smeathers and LeighAnn (Andy) Smith; granddaughters, Madeline Hughes, Camryn Hughes and Brooklyn Smeathers; sisters, Phyllis Wilson, Carol Roberts, and Marita Mantooth, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM, Monday, December 8, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
