Raymond S. Payne

Raymond Spalding Payne, 90, of Owensboro died Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the Leisure Years Nursing Home. Born September 21, 1914 in Knottsville, Mr. Payne was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and was retired from Grounds Maintenance at Windridge Country Club . Mr. Payne enjoyed farming and was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 696. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie Ward Payne, a son, Franklin Eugene Payne and two sisters, Anna Edge and Bernice Edge.

Mr. Payne is survived by a daughter, Margaret Ellen Payne of Owensboro; three sons, James J.C. Payne of Owensboro, Larry R. Payne of Bowling Green and Charles F. Payne of Philpot; 3 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Rose Lee Howard of Whitesville.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday at St. William Catholic Church in Knottsville with burial in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 2-8 P.M. on Thursday and after 8:30 A.M. on Friday. Prayers will be at 5:30 P.M. on Thursday evening.
