Raymond Samuel Payne

Raymond Samuel ''Ray'' Payne, 67, of 4515 Springlane Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, August 31, 2002, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Daviess County native retired in 1995 from Whirlpool Corp. in Evansville after 34 years and was an Army veteran. He was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, automobile racing, fixing lawn mowers, tinkering with machinery, playing pool and conversation.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joann Payne; three sons, David Michael ''Mickey'' Payne, Darryl Ray Payne and Ronals Lynn Payne, all of Owensboro; two daughters, Janice Lorene Payne and Sharon Pedley both of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Tomm Payne of McIntosh, Ala., Joe Payne of Knottsville, Adrian ''A.J.'' Payne of Bloomfield and Chris Payne of Philpor; six sisters, Trudy hickey of Oak Harbor, Wash., Jane Blackburne of Franklin, Tenn., Lillie Wright and Doris Johnson both of Owensboro, Carolyn Lopes of Newton, mass., and Mary Barnett of Whitesville: and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ss Joseph and Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Flenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
