Raymond Gary Merkley

Raymond Gary Merkley, 73, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Heartford House. He was born in Perry County, Indiana to the late William George and Susan Elizabeth Hudson Merkley.

Raymond was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Navy Reserves for an additional six years.

He retired from General Electric in 2000 after 20 years of service. Raymond also worked for the Tell City Chair Company for 20 years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Edward, David and Herman Merkley.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon A. Merkley; daughters, Angela Marie Howell (Wayne Eugene) of Tell City, IN and Karen Merkley (Paul Carter); a son, Tim Merkley, both of Owensboro; grandchildren, Vicki Hubert, Mandy Glenn (Jeremy) and Jessie Howell (David Wilkerson); 2 great grandchildren expected in May and June; sisters, Catherine Myers (Jerry) of Evanston, IN, Mary Darlene VanHoosier of Saint Meinard, IN and Terry Alexander (Warren) of Rome, IN; an aunt, Betty Hudson of Bristow, IN; a sister-in-law, Betty Merkley of Jasper, IN; and his canine buddy, Rex.

The funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, January 13 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 - 5 PM on Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends may also visit after 9 AM on Monday at the church.
