Raymond (Ray) James Haragan Jr., 83, of Owensboro died Thursday, August 04, 2005, at home. He was born January 8, 1922 in Louisville, Ky., was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he served in several ministries; Finance Committee, Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was Eucharistic Minister to the hospitals 14 years, lay director of the Cursillo and President of the Board of Directors of the Help Office in 1970s. He retired from the American Tobacco Co. after 37 years as an Accounting Supervisor working in Owensboro and Mountain Top, PA. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY. He received his degree from the University of Louisville and attended North Western University. An Army Veteran of WWII, he served in Europe, England, France and Luxemburg. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, bird watching and was an avid reader. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him much happiness. He enjoyed the company of his many friends. His annual retreats at Gethsemani were very important in his later life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Louise Gregory Haragan in 1988 and his parents Raymond J. Haragan Sr. and Margaret Green Haragan.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 14 years, Doris Clark Hayden Haragan, his son, John P. Haragan of Owensboro and his daughter, Brigid Haragan of Bethesda, MD; two stepsons, and wife, Mark (Ettagene) Hayden of Hartford, John Hayden, of Owensboro; seven stepdaughters and spouses, Virginia (Eddie) Cook of Nashville,TN; Lisa Guinn of Henderson, Stephanie (Mike) Houtchen, Rose (Mark) Reisz, of Owensboro, Blaise Poth, and Anne (Tom) Kandul of Louisville and Jeanne Hayden (Bobby Headrick) of Hartford; twenty five step grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren; one brother Bob (Mary Ann) Haragan of Ft. Myers, FL; one sister, Barbara Ann (Leo) Brown of Louisville; a brother-in-law, Bob (Marie) Clark of Ft. Myers, FL; a sister-in-law, Sr. Mary Brigid Gregory of St. Catherine, KY.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday, at Glenn Funeral Home, with prayers at 6:00 PM. Visitation after 9:00 AM on Monday.
