Raymond Eugene "Gene" Boone, 74, of 1117 Hickman Avenue, Owensboro, Died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at his home of natural causes. He was born January 1, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Raymond O. and Mary R. (Hayden) Boone. He was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School, St. Mary's College in Kentucky, Brescia University, and completed a fellowship at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., receiving degrees in math, chemistry and accounting. After college, he taught at Catholic High School then moved to Cincinnati and worked for Taft Pharmaceuticals, where he was involved in research for presenting a paper on his findings to an international air quality conference in Canada. In the late 1960's he joined his father in the family business, Raymond O. Boone Accounting where he was an accountant and tax preparer until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. Gene was an avid reader and enjoyed learning every day of his life and being a source of knowledge for his family.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were; sisters, Laurie Boone Pecha, Nancy Boone Rhodes and Natalie Boone Zambrano, and sister in law; Cindy Lewis Boone. Surviving are his brothers; Joel (Linda) Boone, Michael Boone, both of Owensboro, and Julian (Mari) Boone of Quincy, Illinois, and sisters; Julie Boone of Owensboro, and Marilyn (Bernard) Lally of Carmel, Indiana, and a brother in law; Alan Zambrano of Owensboro. Uncle Gene will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at St. Stephen Cathedral with Fr. Josh McCarty officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. with prayers at 6:30 p.m., and after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. The family has asked that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Abbey of Gethsemani, 3642 Monks Road, Trappist, Kentucky 40051.
