Randall Tanner Smith

April 23, 1915 — October 13, 2003

Randall Tanner Smith, 88, of Lewisport died Monday, October 13, 2003 at the Heartland Villas nursing facility. He was born April 23, 1915 in Fairfield, Illinois to the late Clarence and Stella Tanner Smith.

After graduating from high school in Richton, Mississippi, Mr. Smith joined the Merchant Marine and served for ten years, making numerous military support voyages during World War II. Following the war, he was persuaded by his twin brother, Wyndall Smith, to settle in Owensboro and join him in business. He owned and operated Wyndalls Farm Store on Highway 60 East until his retirement in 1978. Soon after coming to Owensboro, he met and married Pauline Baker of Lewisport, who preceded him in death in 1999. Mr. Smith was an active community supporter and member of several civic organizations. He and Mrs. Smith were members of Third Baptist Church.

Survivors include on daughter, Nancy Fitts of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Carrie Fleck of Cincinnati, Matthew Fitts, of Cincinnati, and Linsey Fitts of Denver; a great-grandchild, Sophie Fleck of Cincinnati, a sister Clarice Rankin of Poplarville, Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral home, with Rev. James Byrd officiating. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of Third Baptist Church.
