Randall E. King

Dr. Randall E. King, 57, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2016. Dr. King was born on June 9, 1959 in Owensboro to Roy and Nancy Ambrose King.Father, physician, husband, son, brother, leader, and friend, our precious loved one could be described by those words and many more. He was many things to many people. Most known to this community, as Dr. Randall E. King, he was deeply respected and appreciated for the caring contributions he made as a skilled physician and surgeon. Yet, to those who knew him best, he was just "Randy", a man who did not need or want titles of recognition.

Although he was never comfortable drawing attention to himself, this hometown boy, born and raised in Masonville, KY was an accomplished athlete, and alumni of The DCHS Panthers, he lettered in football all four years, and graduated from Daviess County High school. He furthered his education receiving his undergraduate degree from Western Ky University, his medical degree from University of Kentucky, and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology from University of TN at Memphis.

With determination he received his education while working and serving as a husband and father, and then returned to Owensboro where he set up practice as a solo OB/GYN.He would not want it to go unmentioned that his success in practice was not accomplished alone, but with the help of his mother, sisters, and family.

Over the course of the last 20+ years, Dr. King (Randy) has brought life and healing to countless families within this community and beyond. With his incredible intelligence and huge heart guiding him, he spoke with firmness and hope to the tear filled eyes of mothers with a lost child and fathers whose hope of new life was no more. At the same time, he never grew tired of rejoicing, or giving reassurance as he looked into the faces of mothers, new and old as he helped them to bring forth life. He cared deeply about each and every patient, and worked tirelessly, with the help of his great staff, to see that every patient was seen, every call was returned, and every question received an answer before he ended his day.

Randy King, although busier than most, took time out to give back to his community in other ways as well. He was interested in the betterment of children, and served four years as a county school board member, striving to better the education opportunities in his hometown. Randy had a philanthropic heart. Numerous times he quietly and anonymously took care of the needs of less fortunate people. He gave everything from providing Christmas gifts for the needy to clothing and feeding the homeless, and even going so far as to provide teeth for a man whom he said he wanted to see smile again. Randy had a heart that wanted to serve others. He demonstrated this over and over with acts of kindness to patients, strangers, and family alike.

Finally, Randy was a man of faith. He loved his children, his family, and his Lord. Adoring his children, his greatest desire was to lead a life that pointed them to the cross of Christ. Like all of us, he was not always perfect. But, his heart was perfectly full of a strong desire to work hard to be the best father, physician, husband, and overall man he could be. This community has lost a great pillar, and our family has lost a great man....our broken hearts will mourn. Yet, take heart.....our mourning will be turned to joy as we remember this faithful man is now resting in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roy King Jr. (Punkin); grandfather, B. Sterling Ambrose; and step-son, Christopher Luke McAteer


Survivors include his wife, Karla King; mother, Nancy King; grandmother, Lucille Helton; children, Lyndsey King, Ashley King, Chelsey King, Bailey King, Andrew King, AnnaKate King; granddaughter, Karsyn Alexis; step-son Zackary Lawton McAteer; sisters, Danette Preston and Cindy Hamilton (Mike); many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, many close friends and extended family.

To best honor Dr. King and his desire to attend to the needs of others, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the March of Dimes, St. Jude's, or in any way assist in the needs of the less fortunate.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the River Park Center. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 pm Friday, October 14, 2016 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 11 am Saturday at the River Park Center. A private burial will follow the service.
