Randall G. Epperson, 92, of Pompano Beach, Florida, formerly of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Pompano Beach. He was born December 15, 1923 in McLeansboro, IL to the late Cepha K. and Pearl Bridwell Epperson. Randall was retired as a corporate pilot having been with several companies. He was a flight instructor and charter and chief pilot for Sky Service, Corp. from 1946 through May of 1952, chief pilot for Badgett Mine Stripping in Madisonville from May of 1952 through May of 1960, and pilot, and manager of flight operations for Texas Gas Transmission from May of 1960 through January of 1989 when he retired. From 1957 for many years, he owned and operated a small operation giving flight instruction and doing maintenance and annual inspections on various aircraft. Randall was certified to fly many different aircraft, both single and multi-engined. He also built numerous aircraft and provided repairs for many people. Randall was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran during World War II. He was a 1941 graduate of McLeansboro, IL High School and had attended the University of Alabama. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Randall was preceded in death by his wife Martha Jean Boyer Epperson on September 12, 1997.
Surviving are his daughters, Lea Matheny and husband Leonard of Owensboro and Anita Bir and husband Marty of Memphis, TN, five granddaughters, Brooke Morris and husband Robert, Mary James and husband J.P., Amy Matheny and husband John, Kelcy Bir, and Kailey Bir, and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro.
