Ramona “Mimi” Hobgood Payne, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, December 7, at University of Louisville Jewish Hospital. She was born May 29, 1946, to the late CJ and Elsie Hobgood.
Mimi retired after over 30 years of dedicated service at Bell South phone company, where her commitment to her work mirrored her devotion to her family. She was proud of her career but found her greatest joy in the relationships she nurtured throughout her life.
In her retirement, Mimi embraced her love for travel, often spending winters in Gulf Shores, enjoying the warmth and relaxation that these moments brought her. An adventurous spirit, she shared many memorable outings hitting the slot machines with her late husband, Coy, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love. Mimi was a passionate sports enthusiast, fervently supporting her teams, especially the UK Basketball team and the Kansas City Chiefs. She treasured attending football games to cheer on Evan, Eli and Palmer, taking immense pride in their achievements on the field.
An extraordinary cook, Mimi had a special talent for bringing people together around the dinner table. She had a reputation for ensuring that no one ever left her home hungry, particularly showcasing her fondness for preparing breakfast that was eagerly anticipated by family and friends alike.
Mimi's love for her family was undeniable; she loved them fiercely and unconditionally. Her presence in their lives was a gift that enriched every moment spent together. Her legacy will continue to shine through the countless memories she created and the strong bonds she forged.
In addition to her parents, Ramona is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Bernard “Coy” Payne; brother, Buddy Jan Hobgood; sisters, Diane Reddick (Jake) and Cheryl Arnold; sister-in-law, Sherry Hobgood; stepson, Timmy Payne; grandson, Reid Michael Payne; and nephew, Todd Reddick.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Bradley Gale Rone, Christopher B. Rone (Jennifer) and Michael Chad Payne (Misty); stepchildren, Eric Payne, Traci Edick and Leah Andrews (Lee); brothers, Rev. Glenn Hobgood (Doris), Jerry Hobgood, and Rick Hobgood (Julie); brother-in-law, Billy Arnold; grandchildren, Austin Rone, Jordan Rone, Alannah Fazzino (John Michael), Sara Rone (Landon), Hannah Abreu (Ronald), Landon Rone (Haley), Courtney Valentine (Jacob), Dylan Payne (Dani) and Addalyn Payne; greatgrandchildren, Asher, Wyatt, Mikayla, Greenleigh, Ivy, Trinity, Emerson, Waylon, Asa, Ella, Nora, Laurel and Mabel; very special niece, Heather Hampton; dear friends, Mary Helen Nash, Toni Pride, Sue Raineir, Dottie Payne and Connie and Dan Wooslay; as well as many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and extended family members near and dear to her heart.

The funeral service for Ramona will be 2 PM Saturday, December 13, at Glenn funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
