Rack Hempill Wilhite, 90, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Twin Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 9, 1927, he was the son of the Noel and Frances Elizabeth (Rowan) Wilhite. He was the ninth of twelve children brought up on the farm his grandfather purchased on September 28, 1874. Rack was a farm helper all his life and lived on the family farm the majority of his life. Rack was a man of few words but had a heart of gold. He spent many years caring for his nieces and nephews as well as his great- nieces and great-nephews. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church that was founded on the family farm by his grandfather, Charlie Madison Wilhite, in 1879. In addition to his parents, Rack was preceded in death by siblings Charlie Levi, Noel Clements, Beard Parnell, James Marion, Clay Guffy, Hugh Bedford, Henry Clifton, Albert Earl, and Ulysses Carl Wilhite, and Mary Pauline Cowherd and Dorothy Lois Davis.
He leaves behind his caregiver Hugh B. Wilhite, Jr. and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Larry Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Point Cemetery in Pleasant Ridge. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
