Rachel Coots Thacker

Rachel Coots Thacker, 92, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born March 25, 1917 in Calhoun, KY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Crawford Coots and Mable Glenn Coots. Mrs. Thacker graduated from Owensboro High School, Virginia Intermont College and Baylor University. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was an accomplished musician and her other interests included her memberships in the Married Ladies Reading Club, the Saturday Musical, the Women's Guild, and the General Evan Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her first husband, G. Wallace Thacker, in 1988 and her second husband, Dorsey Taylor, in 1995.

Survivors include her children, George Wallace Thacker, Jr. and his wife Glenda and Mary Fair Silvert and her husband David, all of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Whitney Thacker Arnold and her husband Joseph V., Stanley David Silvert, Jr. and his wife Cindy, Beth Silvert Wilmes and her husband Michael, Ashley Thacker Welch and her husband Jimmy, George Wallace Thacker, III, and Madison Crawford Silvert and his wife Amy; her great-grandchildren, Harrison Michael Wilmes, Eleanor Rachel Wilmes, Bridget Grace Silvert, Mary Grace Welch, Andrew Jacob Welch, James William Thacker, Samuel Richard Arnold, Henry Augustine Arnold, Emma Catherine Silvert, Lillian Frances Silvert, and John Crawford Silvert;

Services, officiated by Dr. Paul Strahan and Dr. David Nelson, are 10:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Youth Fund of First Baptist Church.
