Rachel Marksberry Kirtley, 72, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 at her home. Born in McLean County on August 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Marksberry Sr. and Ella Birkhead Horrell Marksberry; was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church and had worked in the Ladies Department of King's Department Store. Mrs. Kirtley was a devoted mother and spent many years caring for her son, Jerry "Butch" Basham, Jr. before he passed away. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Sam Marksberry and John Marksberry and sisters, Peggy Jeffers, Mary Lou Poole, and Betty Shelton.
Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Roger Kirtley; daughters, Cindy Basham Hall of Utica and Teri Basham Decker of Owensboro; a son, Danny Basham of Owensboro; a step-son, Luke Kirtley of Dover, DE; grandchildren, Kerry Hall, Kraig Hall, Keegan Decker, David Decker, Josh Webb, and Linda Singleton; eight great-grandchildren; s sister, Mildred Crowe of Owensboro; and brothers, Gene Marksberry of Utica, Harvey Marksberry, Jr. of Russellville, Jack Marksberry of Ohio County, and Paul Marksberry of Morgantown.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. James Wedding officiating followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
