Rachael Horrell Sandidge

Rachael Horrell Sandidge, 78 was born on August 20, 1936 in Owensboro. She passed away on Friday November 21, 2014 at Heartford House. She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Frances Head Horrell, her brothers George William Horrell and Todd Horrell and her sisters, Margaret "Dolly" Mattingly in 2013 and Shirley Leonard last week.

She had a full life with a wide circle of friends. She loved her family, friends and neighbors. Her neighbors, Barry Gaddis, Mary Rodriguez and her young daughter Lily were extremely kind and helpful to her as her health declined. She had many special lifelong friends that were also an important part of her life.

She was an avid golfer and won tournaments throughout the city, state and country as well as club championships during her life. She was a former member of the Owensboro Country Club and served on their Board in the early 90's. She was a lifelong member of Century Christian Church and was active for many years.
She was retired from the Executive Inn where she was Manager of the Showroom Lounge in Evansville.

She loved playing cards, crossword puzzles and at one time needlepoint. She was an excellent cook and was known for many years as the "Queen of Fudge" as she often had more than 20 requests for multiple batches from friends and family at Christmas.

She was very self sufficient most of her life and good at anything she put her mind to doing. She loved laughing and spending time with her friends and her family. She was a life long resident of Owensboro.

She is survived by daughters, Susan Clement and her husband David of Lexington Ky, Cynthia Rima and husband Mike of Dacula GA; sons Tom Sandidge and his wife Cheryl of Tucson AZ, Clay Sandidge and his wife Donna of Mission Viejo CA, stepdaughters Sheridan Marr (Guy) of Tampa FL and Lyn Reece (Jay) of Indianapolis; brothers Bennie Horrell and his wife Judy of Owensboro, Rob Horrell and his wife Peggy of Atlanta GA and Ann Gibson of Owensboro KY; grandchildren Gracie Rima, Slate, Eve and Wilson Sandidge and Julio, Claudia, Samantha, Michael and Cindy Sandidge and step-grandchildren, Richard , Matthew and Jonathan Clement. She also has several great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews as well as step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration service of her life will be held at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory at 3:00pm on Monday November 24, with visitation from 11:30am until 3:00pm. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Goodfellows Club of Owensboro, 401 Frederica Street B203, Owensboro KY 42301.
