Raphael Lawrence Johnson, 88, of Knottsville, died Friday morning, December 25, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born January 2, 1927 in Hancock County to the late Raphael and Julia Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was an Army Veteran of WW II who retired from Chrysler but also spent many years as a carpenter and a farmer.
He enjoyed fishing, country music, gardening, horse racing and traveling.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by sons, Randall and Bruce Johnson; brothers, Vincent and Owen Johnson; and five sisters, Martine York, Mary Edna Payne, Winfred Roby, Eunice Corley and Rose Ann Roberts.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dortha; four sons, Larry (Jodell) Johnson of Whitesville, Kenny Johnson and Pat Johnson of Knottsville and Joe (Carla) Johnson of Louisville; four daughters, Jeanetta (Philip) Ballard of Utica, Susan Bickett, Ann Allen, both of Whitesville, and Cindy (Barry) Mills of Philpot; 38 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Fulkerson of Knottsville and Bernadette Melton of Owensboro.
The funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM Monday, December 28 at St. Williams Catholic Church in Knottsville. Burial will be at St. Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 until 7 PM, with prayers at 5:30, and after 8:30 AM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
