Qmc Gregory Alan Gish

July 3, 1961 — September 9, 2011

QMC Gregory Alan Gish passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 in Daviess County. Born July 3, 1961, he retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 culminating a career that spanned 20 years, including 7 years sea service and conflicts from Desert Storm to Enduring Freedom. He served as Quartermaster (navigator), and NJROTC instructor. Preceding QMC Gish in death were his father, Robert Earl Gish, a step-father, Pete Emery, and a step-mother, Nora Gish.

Greg loved and cherished his family. He was a proud parent and a hero to many, who thought the world of his two sons and made it a point to let them know just how much he loved them every day. From the simple things like providing everything the family needed to selling the house and traveling the country with them 24/7, 365 days in a row.

No matter who you were, he would always back you 100%. He had faith that you could accomplish anything. And when you looked puzzled or he saw a potential in someone of being an even better person, he'd give you just the right advice to get you motivated and wanting to do great things.

There was never that awkward feeling of being around a parent/teacher when they're trying to be cool, he just was. Being able to use the newest words never before seen in a dictionary was like a second language to him and it worked. He didn't try to be hip or fresh or whatever. It just came naturally.

Surviving are sons, AWS3 Keaton Gish stationed at Norfolk, VA and Garreth Gish of Owensboro; his mother, Helen Joan Emery of Sacramento, KY; the boy's mother, Christine Gish of Owensboro; brothers, Terry (Agnes) Gish of Fulton, TN and Dennis (Kathleen) Gish of Sacramento; and sister, Lisa (Tim) Boisture of Sacramento.

Services are 6 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Bluegrass Museum, 117 Daviess St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
