Phyllis Chappell Sands Varble, 80, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Crystal City, TX. Born in Owensboro on December 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Josephine Carden Chappell; was retired from General Electric; and was a member of First Church of the Nazerene. Mrs. Varble enjoyed traveling and gardening. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Sands.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Edward Varble; daughters, Carla (and Tom) Mattingly of Owensboro and Lisa Sands of Chicago; a son, Randy Sands of Illinois; a step-son; Eddie Varble of Owensboro; grandchildren, Clinton Mattingly and Lance Mattingly; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nellie Carraway.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Peace Chapel in Rosehill Cemetery followed by entombment. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home. There is no visitation on Monday.
