Phyllis Helen Law, 96, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Oaklawn Health and Rehabilitation in Louisville. Born in Harrisburg, PA, a daughter of the late Fred L. and Elizabeth Rowe James, Mrs. Law grew up and graduated from high school in Williamstown, PA. She and her husband moved to Owensboro in 1962. Mrs. Law was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her interests included hand quilting and crochet. She created hundreds of lap robes for nursing homes and Native American organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Law in 1998, and her sisters, Romaine Bowman, Alberta Morgan, and Lois Shuttlesworth.
Survivors include her sons, William J. Law and his wife Sally of Owensboro and Dale Law and his wife Mary Ghee of Louisville; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Law of Carlisle, PA, Thomas Law of Atlantic City Amy Law of Owensboro, William A. Law of Louisville, Marty Nichter of Louisville and Cary Mahl of Dayton; and 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Mendenhall of Franklin, TN.
The funeral service for Mrs. Law will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial funds of Zion United Church of Christ or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
