Phyllis Cook

Phyllis Cook, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on February 23, 1937, to the late Earl and Louanna Ambrose Williams, Phyllis lived a full and joyful life defined by kindness, compassion, and a deep love for her family and friends.

For over thirty years, Phyllis could be found on the dance floor, square dancing with a radiant smile and unmatched energy. She was known for her signature high heels, which were worn proudly everywhere she went, even while working in the yard. Her grace and spirit left an impression on everyone she met.

Phyllis had a gift for making people feel at home. Her door was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her heart always generous. She was a talented seamstress, a wonderful storyteller whose tales could light up any room, and the maker of the best peanut butter and chocolate fudge anyone ever tasted.

Above all, Phyllis cared deeply for her family. She loved each of them unconditionally.

Phyllis was also preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Bratcher; second husband, David Lee Cook; daughter, Cindy Shelton; sisters, Ruth Ann Baldwin and Katherine Williams, and sons-in-law, Marcus Payne and Billy Osborne.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Payne; grandchildren, Amie (John)Lambert, Latasha (Bo) Blanton, April Payne, Travis Shelton (Tabby Rich), Marcus (Misty) Payne, and Roger G. (Marilyn) Shelton; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Frances Eckstein, Nancy Yaun, Janet Eaves, Del (Virginia) Williams, Donna O’Kelley, Roger (Nelda) Williams and Sheila Candy, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery.
