Phillip Ivan Lively, 55, of Owensboro, died Friday, May 1, 2009 at his home with his family after a long and brave battle with cancer. He was born November 19, 1953 in Indianapolis, IN and was preceded in death by his father Ivan Donley Lively; his step-father, Lory Barker; and his father-in-law, Elwood S. Maris, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Elisa A. (Maris) Lively; two daughters, Courtney R. Lively of Owensboro and Amanda M. (Lively) Ford of North Las Vegas, NV; his mother, Ruth (Lively) Barker and sister, Donna (Lively) Russell both of Indianapolis; and two grandsons in North Las Vegas, NV.
Phillip graduated from Indiana University (Bloomington, IN) in 1974 earning a BA in Anthropology/Forensics, followed by graduate work in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. He first worked with various agencies of law enforcement in Indiana, later becoming an inspector for the Breath Alcohol Program in the Department of Toxicology at the Indiana University of Medicine in Indianapolis. Phil had the opportunity to become an expert in breath alcohol instrumentation when he represented various breath alcohol products for Mid-West Instruments. In 1989, he accepted a position as director of the Breath Alcohol Program for the Montana Department of Justice and moved to Missoula. While in Montana, he served as president of the International Association for Chemical Testing. He moved with his family to Owensboro in 2001 when he became Manager of Service and After Market Support for CMI, a branch of MPD, Inc. His work with CMI included the presentation of training seminars in breath testing throughout the United States and several foreign countries. During his career he worked with leading experts in breath/blood/drug testing and, in turn, was internationally recognized for his knowledge, expertise, and teaching.
In addition to being an avid reader, Phil enjoyed many types of music and enjoyed playing his musical instruments. His love for fishing was something he took very seriously-- no matter where he was, he always tried to have his rod and reel with him. But, nothing pleased him more than being involved with his daughter, Courtney, and the Daviess County High School Marching Band. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Indianapolis.
A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 11 a.m Saturday at the funeral home.
