Phillip G. Johnson, 65, of Philpot, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. His journey began on June 21, 1951 in St. Lawrence, KY, born to his dearly beloved parents, Edward C. and Agnes E. Coomes Johnson. He grew up alongside his 12 brothers and sisters whom he truly loved.
Early on, he was taught a strong work ethic from his parents, which he carried throughout his life. Phillip was a very dedicated and loyal employee for the same company for 50 years. He was mechanically gifted—no job was ever too tough for Phillip. He was a U. S. Army veteran and of the Catholic faith. He was charming, funny, full of life, and made everyone laugh, always having a great sense of humor. Phillip loved the Springtime, feeding his birds, mowing his yard, and he dearly loved spending time with all his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister whom he dearly loved: Mitchell, Clayton, George, and Pat Johnson and sister Thelma Hardin. He loved going to the "Funny Farm" early on and hanging out and having fun with his brothers, nephews, and a brother-in-law, Bob.
Phillip is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rebecca Clark Johnson. He was blessed with four daughters whom he cherished, Christi Ebelhar, Jeanette Johnson, Rhonda (Kent, Sr.) Henley, and Andrea (Nick, Sr.) Wedding. He was a proud and supportive grandfather to: Jordan, Hunter, and Madasin Ebelhar, Andrew and Kaitlyn Johnson, Kent, Jr.(Kenzie), Kameron, Kristen(Zack) Henley, Nick, Jr. and Jarren Wedding, and a proud great grandfather to: Eli Carlisle, Baby Eyan Carlisle (soon to be born), and Paisley Henley.
Phillip is also survived by his loving sisters, Dorothy Bartlett, Edie (Ken) McKay, Mildred Payne, Louise Crowe, Linda (Danny) Coomes, Judy (Mark) Freels, and Debra Johnson, sisters-in-law, Patty Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Teresa Johnson, and Nadine Higdon, and many nieces and nephews. Other in-laws surviving are Sandy (Denny) Conrad, Peggy Eans, Shirley (Ron) Oliver, Butch Clark, and Lyndell (Alisa) Clark.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 25, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial with full military honors will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 8:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
