Philip Wayne Thompson, 51, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005 at his home. He was born in Owensboro and retired from OMU. He worked for the John Deere dealership for 25 years and was presently working part time at Westerfield Implement in Hartford. He had also just recently completed courses for auto body repair. He attended Owensboro Catholic High School and completed many vocational courses. He was a past member of the National Guard.
He was a kind, generous, loving person who was always helping his family and friends in need. He was devoted to his family and was always there for them. In his spare time he enjoyed being with his grandchildren and was looking forward to a new grandson. He also enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia, and was a fan of NASCAR racing. You could always find him tinkering in the garage and making everyone around him laugh.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 30 years, Gina Ferrell Thompson, who died September 16, 2003 and a granddaughter, Bailey Smith Thompson, who died November 13, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Andy Thompson and his wife, Amy, his daughter, Katie Thompson and her fiance,Vic Stallings, and two grandchildren, Dylan Thompson and Zachary Stallings, all of Owensboro. He is also survived by his mother, Alberta Hagan and two sisters, Sandy Thompson and Becky Payne and her husband, Jerry; one brother, Bill Thompson and his wife, Debbie, all of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Monday and after 11:00 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
