Perry Lee Smith, known as Pop, of Owensboro, went to be with The Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
Pop, a family patriarch, was born in Meridian, Mississippi on December 7, 1927, was a retired US Air Force engineer and a beloved member of the community, he passed away at his home at age 83 surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Louise and his parents Henry T. and Julie Richardson Smith.
Pop was an avid golfer, a world traveler, a nature lover, a Gideon and a member of the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels, the American Legion and Lewis Lane Baptist and Christ Community churches. Pop served the Air Force both as an enlisted man and a civilian engineer. Upon retirement from Government service, Pop worked for Loos and Company.
He is survived by daughter, Lynda Youngman; son, Jimmy R. Smith and his wife Bonnie; grandchildren, Jason Smith and his wife Tricia, Sam Youngman, Brad Youngman, Betsy Youngman, Shane Smith, Jennifer Smith, Nathan Smith and Caleb Smith; great-grandchildren, Kaden Youngman, Brittany Smith and Little Jay Smith; sister, Judy Helton and her husband Larry; brother, Ronnie Smith and his wife Joy; close friends, Brenda Hauser, Roxi Witt and David "Smokey" Millay; and his best friend and loyal companion, Nietzche or "the puppy."
Services will be Noon on Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky, American Cancer Society, and the Humane Society of Owensboro.
