Percy Lee Custer, 85, of Owensboro passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Signature Health Care Hillcrest. He was born June 4, 1932 in Gretna, VA to the late Ernest and Lena Custer. Percy was a retired diesel mechanic and cook in the U.S. Army serving 2 separate tours in the Vietnam War. He was an excellent diesel mechanic with a strong work ethic. Percy worked at Buena Vista Baptist Church as a maintenance technician for over 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes for 38 years. Percy loved socializing with people, he loved westerns, and he loved animals. He loved his family very much and was an extremely generous person who enjoyed helping others.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Custer; his son, James P. Custer; his sister, Agnes Roach; his brother, Haywood Custer; his great granddaughter, Mary Eva Custer
He is survived by his daughter, Donna McDaniel (Jerry) of Owensboro; his son, Michael Custer of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Anna Marie McDaniel, Matt Custer, Tina Custer, Roseanna Custer Payne, and Alex Custer; his sister, Judy Huff of Danville, VA; his brothers, John Custer of Clinton, NC and Roy Custer of Gretna, VA; 8 great-grandchildren
The funeral mass will be 10AM Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with entombment following at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. The visitation will be 4-8PM Monday with prayers beginning at 7:30PM and 9AM until service time at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to the Disciples Fund at Our Lady of Lourdes.
