Maple Mount — Sister Pauletta McCarty, 96, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 77th year of religious life.
Born Helen Marie McCarty, she was a native of Curdsville. Sister Pauletta always had a smile on her face, and retained friendships with former students all their lives.
An educator for 36 years, she taught at Blessed Mother School, Owensboro (1951-52 and 1969-76). She taught in many other schools in Kentucky, Missouri and Nebraska. She also served in parish ministry, including serving as minister to nursing homes at Precious Blood Parish, Owensboro (1981-86) and as parish minister at St. Joseph Catholic Center, Greenville (1986-89). She was assistant local superior, director of transportation and sacristan at Mount Saint Joseph.
Survivors include a sister, Rose Mary Pease, Evansville, Ind., and two brothers, Celestine Joseph McCarty of Owensboro, and Francis Xavier McCarty of Calhoun; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation begins Monday at 4 p.m., with
a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
