Paul William Thompson, 81, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 while under the care of Hospice of Western KY following a year-long battle with cancer. He was born May 10, 1934 in Sorgho to the late Joseph Bernard and Anabel Wimsatt Thompson. Paul was retired from South Central Bell after 36 years of service, was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, Communication Workers of America, and the AmVets Post 119.
Paul grew up in Sorgho and graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1952. He attended Owensboro Junior College of Business and was a U. S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean War era. He was an avid fan of Nascar racing and horse racing and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends having cookouts. He was a master storyteller enjoying sharing many life stories and loved raising his vegetable garden every year . He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann Thompson in 1967, brothers and sisters, Raymond, Leo, Hank, and Gene Thompson and Mildred Mattingly, Virginia Hardy, Margaret Scherm, Martha Howard, and Beverly Haire.
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Mary Kathryn Myles "Kay" Thompson, his son, Scott Ethridge of Whitesville, his daughters, Elizabeth Bouren of Richmond, Paula Banczak and husband Bill of Chandler, AZ, and Deanna Wethington of Phoenix, AZ, 10 grandchildren, Blake Wethington, Myles Bouren, Hayden Bouren, Brooke Wethington, Bradley Banczak, Dalton Bouren, McKenzie Banczak, Cole Ethridge, Margaret Ann Wethington, and Jaime Ethridge, a brother, Charles Thompson and wife Anna Ruth of Owensboro, and a sister, Patsy Clayton and husband Johnny of Owensboro.
Services will be Noon Friday, February 26, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial following in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday with prayers at 7:00 P.M. and from 10:00-11:30 A.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
