Paul Ray Pate, 81, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born February 19, 1936 in Hancock Co. to the late Eli and Cleo Mickel Pate. Paul was a union painter with the Painter's Union Local #156. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, but had been attending Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Paul loved U.K. basketball, any kind of spectator sports, and was a deer hunter and enthusiast. He also loved working in his yard and gardening, and Nascar racing including all of the Owensboro native drivers.
Paul was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Scott Pate on October 23, 2002, a sister, Beulah Mae "Boots" Mayton, three brothers, Robert Allen Pate, Charles William Pate, and Pat "P.J." Pate, brothers-in-law, Fred Mayton and Ray Adcock, a niece, Carol Pate Palmore, and nephews, Allen Pate and Leonard Pate.
Surviving are sons, Brian Jay Pate and Timmy Ray Pate, both of Owensboro, six grandchildren, Eric Joseph Pate, Chelsea Pate, Ashley Bare, Ryan Pate, Emily Pate, and Cameron Pate, five great grandchildren, Trace Smith III, Eden Smith, Brently Pate, Wesley Pate, and Edison Bare, two brothers, Bobby (Marie) Pate of Jacksonville, N.C. and Harry (Janelle) Pate of Pleasant Hill, MO, a sister, Mary Lillian Adcock of Baldwin, MO, the mother of his children, Lois Clark Pate of Owensboro, and his companion of 13 years, Doris Smith of Philpot.
Services will be Noon Saturday, May 20 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
