Rev. Paul Henry Grossman, 84, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on May, 12 2015. Paul was born in Evansville on March 17, 1931 to the late Louis and Ida Keck Grossman. Paul graduated from a one-room school for his first eight grades, and Reitz High School in Evansville. He proceeded to complete an Associate's Degree from Tennessee Temple College , a Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown College, and his Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. Paul went on to demonstrate his Christian faith through his vocational choices and daily activities the remainder of his life. He pastored in various Baptist churches across Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. Paul and his wife then spent over 30 years in West Africa as missionaries for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. His mission work took his family all over the world and included the building of more than 30 churches, training of pastors, and digging wells in Liberia, Senegal, and Burkina Faso. To do this, he pursued the difficult task of learning the languages of French and Moore, and preached many times in both languages. Paul enjoyed his leisure time by woodworking, doing needlepoint, gardening, and spending time with his family. Many people have sweet memories of him in the form of a gift made by his own hands.
In addition to his parents, Paul in preceded in death by a brother, Robert Grossman, and a grandson, Bailey A. Grossman-Orr.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 62 years, Peggy Chamberlin Grossman; children, Paula Ann (Carl) Mutchler of Sterling, VA, Kenneth Ray (Brenda) Grossman of Maceo, Paul H. (Jan) Grossman Jr. Midlothian VA, and Mareida Jo (Vernon) Grossman-Orr of Greensboro, NC; brother Gilbert (Betty) Grossman of Jonesborough, TN; and grandchildren, Meghan O. (Nate) Angell, Kenneth Ryan Grossman, Jared P. Grossman, Paige E. Grossman, Doran A. Grossman-Orr, and Cayla D. Grossman-Orr.
The funeral service will be held 10 am Friday May 15, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Owensboro. Visitation will be from 2 pm until 8 pm Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 am Friday at the church. Entombment at Rosehill Cemetery will follow the service.
